I don't have much time. I have been out of the internet world and stuck in the house.
I've seen a bunch of movies though and I've read a handful of books.
Short reviews:

RED-a cute film that felt like it was trying too hard at times. john malkovich was the star.
LET ME IN- Boring almost a shot by shot remake.
DATE NIGHT- Cute good for couples but not that funny.
HANGOVER- I was not feeling it. I laughed one good time from the film. Don't let me be the judge though I'm not big on these comedies. However , I think this film had nothing on Superbad and 40 year old virgin.

That's it. OK so it wasn't that many movies. lol

Back online soon.

I liked it (I'm so simple when it comes to these lol)! Julia Robert's character journeys to 3 countries in the story. While she is in Italy the movie really had my attention. Once, she left Italy I thought wow this movie is longer than I thought it would be and I guess I won't be sneaking into another film after this one. In other words it feels like the movie hits a wall and slides down off of it until the end. It was good and maybe if I wasn't the world traveler that I am I would have been truly inspired by the film. It did however further my desire to go to Italy. Medium star.

The Karate Kid-review

This was so cute. I admit I cried just a little bit. I love Jackie Chan. The film was everything it was supposed to be. That being a movie for kids and a film about a kid overcoming his fears. Gonna give it a medium star.

Bad Lieutenant:Port of Call- New Orleans review

Spoiler Clip below:

This was my favorite scene. Umh it is a very different movie from the original. N. Cage was good. I say it was just okay.

Oldie but Goodie American Graffiti -review

American Graffiti came on over the weekend and since I don't have cable I watched whatever movies they showed that day. At first I thought it was American Me confusing the titles but when I saw the opening credits I knew I wrong. The film is about a group of teens who have recently graduated out on the town before they go off to college.  This was a cute movie. I enjoyed seeing Richard Dreyfuss and Ron Howard in their younger faces. Cindy Williams was also in it who I was a fan of on Laverne and Shirley. Def. worth the watch for an oldie.
Medium Star

This is one of those films that I think if I describe it, I may ruin some surprises for you. I will try though. The story tells you that a terrorist has planted bombs and in order for the govt to get the location of the bombs they must agree to his terms. The film is mostly the govt trying to convince him to reveal the locations of the bombs.  There are great moments in this film. There are moments when I doubt that Samuel L. Jackson was right for his role. Def. an interesting film that will make you cringe and yell "DAMN".

Kick-Ass - Review

Kick-Ass is out on dvd now. I watched it maybe a week ago. The story goes a nerdy kid wants to become a superhero, so he buys a suit and begins to fight crime. He becomes an overnight celebrity and get's caught in a plot by two other superheroes (Nick Cage and Hit Girl) to take down the biggest drug lord in the city. I'm so good at this synopsis thing, haha. Anyways, it was fun and exciting. The fight scenes are great and of course it inspires you to want to be a superhero yourself. I didn't think it was awesome like so many of my comrades but it is a pretty good film.

TV is back in full effect

I'm looking forward to Project Runway, Grey's Anatomy, Bad Girl's Club, and more. YAY! hahaha

Who watched this movie on BET recently? I swear this made me look at Blair Underwood in a whole new light. My grandma doesn't like him ever since he did Tyler Perry's Family Reunion. In this film he plays a man torn up by a loss and begins harassing his best friend's wife. It's one of those nutty dramatic dramas. I wouldn't put it on your must see list but if you are a fan of Blair you may enjoy seeing him in a role that isn't the just the sexy man.

The Blind Side- review

It was everything I thought it would be. Boring, typical, cheesy, and more. I didn't know Sandra Bullock had such a nice figure. Do I think she deserved the Oscar? No way. I don't feel like looking up a smiley for this one but you can imagine what it would look like.

Once again...

Once again I have limited internet access. I'm sure you can tell when I have internet at home or not. I am looking for work. Trying to gig again back on the grind. I'm trying to get the motivation to shoot but I can't write. Blah Blah Blah. I have a new book review coming. I read Stephen King's "On Writing". (i hate this rule right here) It was a good read. Right now I'm in another Easy Rawlins adventure. I am trying to figure out how to get on Selma in  a better position than a PA. We shall see. I may try to do 48 hour next month. It is close to my birthday. What's up with you?

Cop Out- review

I don't want to explain this movie to you. I swear I just don't think Tracy Morgan is funny. This one deserves a random smiley. I'm positive this was a bad movie. Gosh, I'm corny. This is a double joke for those of you who know me.

Some stuff I shot in LA

Good News!

In my inbox today I found out that Lee Daniels will be filming his next project Selma down in New Orleans (oh yea I'm back home). I was in the stageplay Selma back in my college days. I am looking forward to maybe being a part of this production.

The Lightkeepers-review

What did you feel after watching that? After, restarting this film about 4 times (in addition to falling asleep on it once) I sat down and watched the whole film. Richard Dreyfuss is a good actor and looks like a different man with all that facial hair. However, this film has no viewer rewarding qualities (heh).  I didn't care about any of the other actors in the film and I think their roles were so small that any other actors could have been playing the part. I don't know what else to say.

Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom-review

To all my fellow followers of the TV show Noah's Arc, I'm sure you were just as happy as I was to watch the film. This is a cute film and a good sitcom turned feature for the genre. I did squirm during the intimate scenes. This is obviously a film for gay men, followers of the show, and some random women. Lol this isn't for straight men. It isn't great but it is fun to watch. For those who don't know the show is about a group of gay friends. The main character is Noah who all the friends support and love. In the film Noah is getting married(duh).

The Countess-review

I'm gonna post the trailer since I'm sure most f you have not heard of this film. I picked it up because I like the cover. The film is about a feared Countess who grows into a vain murderous woman after losing someone she loves. It is a love story and a tale of what one will do for beauty. I think it is a good story that would be a better read instead of a film. I think as a book it could be a classic novel. I didn't see anything indicating this as a best-seller turned film. Anyways, if you are looking for a period piece and something different from perhaps your normal movie selections, I say give it a watch. Medium star worth the watch to see a different kind of love story.

Get Him to the Greek-review

Hmm I wonder if I can write a review of this one yet. The film centers around a young guy working for a music company with Diddy as his boss. He comes up with an idea to hold a concert for his favorite Rockstar. He is assigned to get the rockstar from London to the concert venue in LA. Of course his mission is not easy.  I know many people don't like Diddy so I know he won't be the real reason why anyone takes a trip to the theater for this film. I did enjoy the film. It made me laugh a few times which is good because it's hard to make me laugh during a movie. Only old comedy flicks usually make me laugh out loud. There are moments that bring out the prude in me, throughout the film. Jonah Hill is a funny guy and I see many more good comedies coming starring him. I even enjoyed the music in the film. The music is catchy and suits the film perfectly.  I think this film is going to get great reviews and folks are really going to like it. Medium Star

Blackout- Review

Do you remember that film Blackout that came on BET a few years ago, about the famous blackout in New York? I picked this as the fifth choice in my friend's five for ten dvd deal. (wink wink) The film stars Jeffrey Wright, Zoe Saldana, Prodigy, and more. I picked the above still b/c this was one of the most interesting moments in the film. Jeffrey Wright in a gangster type confrontation. The start of the film has a slow pace and a lack of cool but once the blackout happens the film get's better. It is def. not a great film but it isn't half-bad. There is one emotional scene that got me. I just felt the pain of a young black man. Maybe you will know what I'm talking about. There is a lot of dialogue that almost makes it feel like Do the Right Thing or a play. I'm gonna give it a small star for just okay.

Do you miss me?

Looking forward to this..

As we all know I'm not a horror fan but I want to see this. Is anyone else anxious for the opening of this remake?

You Don't Know Jack

I want to see this. I think I missed it. Gotta find a way to watch it. I'm thinking this is gonna be another classic Al Pacino role.

Death at a Funeral -review

I could do a vs. but there is no need to. Below are the trailers from both films. I'm not sure what I expected from this remake. I can't recall a remake that I like better than the original. I think the original was funny because I didn't know anything about the film before watching it and the humor is subtle. I think the Chris Rock remake attempted to be just as subtle but with a small dose of these comedians humor involved. I think that many followers of these folks expected bigger laughs. In addition the trailers killed this film. All the funny scenes were in the trailers. I think you will find it worth the watch but it won't make your best film of the year.

Why Did I get Married Too - Review

I laughed, I cried, I was stunned, but I didn't love this film. This time around I think they kept adding more and more drama. I have questions about the outcomes of many of the relationships b/c I think the film didn't do enough to fill you in. If you were a fan of the first film I'm sure you are going to enjoy this one. The best part is the men looked good.

More Adventures in California

I watched Why Did I Get Married Too, Saturday with a meet-up group out here. It was nice to go to the movies with a group. I will review it later. I got approved for an apartment and I need to follow-up on it this week. I am still looking for maybe a more permanent job. Still doing the freelance gig thing. I haven't been out here yet. I would love to get my dance on. Stay tuned. I am still a bit down about losing my online buddy in the post below.

Mother and Child- Review

I went to a screening for the film Mother and Child last night.
Here goes my review...
This is a film about pain, regrets, and desires. The film centers around three main characters. Annette Bening as a woman taking care of and living with her aging mother. She has yet to get over giving up a child as a teen and suffers socially from fears associated with this regret. Naomi Watts plays  a middle -aged, free-spirited, and confident woman who begins work at a firm ran by Samuel L. Jackson's character. Kerry Washington is the third storyline as her and her husband seek to adopt a child because they cannot make one on their own. The film hops from story to story as each character goes through a transformation allowing them to love again and let go of the pain inside. The film takes the sad emotion and fills you with it. There are intimate scenes that I think are meant to relate to baby-making but the carnal nature of them with such a sad story can throw you off track.

I enjoyed the film and thought it had good intentions by intertwining adoption into all three character's lives. It was slow but the humor added into the gloom of it all won me over. I don't think you will love it but you will have a hard time saying something bad about it. This is a moving dramatic piece that could potentially lead to awards for the actors and creators involved.

I'm in California

Hey hey,
I left New Orleans Tuesday morning and got to California Friday night. I stopped in Colorado to see my family. Was a very long drive and I'm sure I have a few shades added to my skin. To any of my followers or other bloggers if you want to meet up one of these days let me know. It's early in the morning and I am getting up for breakfast.  For some time this blog is going to be mostly my adventures in Hollywood. I will get back to the reviews when I have time to watch a movie. I need the basics right now.

Story #1 : Yesterday after exiting a rental office I walked into a glass window thinking it was an open door.  I hit my mouth and forehead. I even have a small knot on my head. Boom!

Brooklyn's Finest- Review

I took myself to the movies Wednesday night.  I've been pretty weary about watching movies lately. I just want that old feeling back. You know when you see something that makes you want to tell everyone you know about it or have a discussion with a friend about it after.

First, let me say that action stories involving drugs and guns don't usually make my day. Now that you know that you can understand where I am coming from as I review this film. I wasn't moved. I didn't dig the slick dialogue or the cop vs. dealers war.  Ethan was really good though. Wesley and Don delivered. (you like how I refer to them by their first name only? ) Lela Rochon made a cameo. Shots with the character in focus and the background blurred showed up a few times. The last 30 minutes or so of the film was when it really picked up and this was the only part I really enjoyed.  The film had a sort of Life is Hot in Cracktown ending. There were some other good scenes and shots but I won't spoil them for you. The film was far from amazing but I think those of you who like this scenario will enjoy another film about cops and dealers. One more thing the film did take you into the mind of a cop and why some of them may do what they do. For that it was cool and almost made me respect cops a bit more. ha

Trailer- Cold Souls

I saw this at Blockbuster today. I think I want to check it out. What do you think?

Back to the web

Sorry to all of you who have visited the site hoping for a new review from me. Ha I have been taking my after Korea lazy vacation. I haven't watched any new movies in a minute, surprise surprise.  I went to Blockbuster today so I will share some trailers for the Black Films or films with leading black stars that I saw. I have been posting on the other blog www.shadowandact.com
Do you have any suggestions? I could use a good film in my life after this year's Oscars and my sadness about the Best Picture winner. I think I will start blogging about my day to day again. Yay Top Model is on, lata.

American Violet review

American Violet- It was bland. I enjoyed the story and the information the film provided but I've seen this film before. I'm not feeling this actress yet. Nicole B. is pretty but her acting hasn't moved me yet. She was cute in The Express but her role was minor. Saw her in this new Lifetime movie Sins of the Mother and I still don't know what to think. Back to this film I will give it a small star.

A Classic Sunset Boulevard-review

Finally, watched this film known for that famous quote. I enjoyed it. It wasn't amazing but it did make me think about how much film has changed. Movies are a great great part of my life. Big Star

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs- cute, felt like original animated storytelling not so generic.

The Invention of Lying- sucked, sucked, sucked. Really disappointing to say I like Ricky Gervais. Just a cheesy love story and not funny. But I bet the script was a cute read. No stars for this one

Whip It- Go Drew do your thang! I wasn't all into this film but I was still entertained and I like seeing more women direct movies. Small Star

The Princess and the Frog-review

The Princess and the Frog-
We got a group of folks together to go see this film on Sunday. It is only playing at a few theaters here. We thought we were going to the 3:50 show but it turned out that, that one was being shown in Korean so we had to wait until 6. A bonus for me was being able to go to the COEX mall and eat Pizzeria UNO. Anyways, so I cried through most of this film. I am soooooo homesick.I enjoyed the food references and some of the songs in the film but not all of them . I don't get why so many people ripped it apart. I mean of course I have extra reasons to like the film but still. It was cute. Some of the accents were great. I would show the film to my children. I'm happy with the effort put into this film and I take this as a tribute to New Orleans. Def. worth the watch and a good film. Giving it a big star.

I will be home in time for Superbowl!!!

The Hurt Locker-review

The Hurt Locker-I will start off by saying that I am a Guy Pearce fan(yet he was like Drew Barrymore in Scream this time around).

The movie left me wondering what all the buzz was about. I've been trying to watch this film since it came out. There is so much praise of it. I even read on CNN how many critics are saying it is the best film of 2009. The acting was good and I do believe Anthony Mackie is growing on me. I have the "maybe I need to watch it again" feeling. I know a few people in the military and they hated the film. I spent my time trying to figure out where the film was going. It was all emotion and little story. I really feel like the film focused on shots(that's what you do for emotion) with a handful of memorable scenes. I felt for the soldier that wanted to go home and I thought the bomb guy was so far gone and logical at the same time. I think they were trying to show the emotions that war creates and what different types of soldiers there are. Yet, I was bored and ready for it to be over. I wasn't there with them feeling their pain because it did feel fake and far from real-life over there. For the cinematography, make-up, and acting I'm gonna give this one a medium star it's really more deserving of a small star b/c I was hardly entertained.

Law Abiding Citizen-review

Law Abiding Citizen-Jamie Foxx stars as a lawyer who gave a criminal a break. This makes the victim of the crime set out to seek revenge. His eyes on everyone involved in the lack of justice he received for the crime committed against his family. So, that explains the title. If you sit back and don't over think the film, this one is a good film along the lines of Taken. If you do think about it too much (like I do) you will find yourself thinking this is too complicated and why does the lawyer become a detective overnight and how is he able to outsmart this former law abiding citizen. Props to F. Gary Gray for doing his thing in the industry. It is a good film and I guarantee you will enjoy how the story plays out Medium star def. worth the watch

The Express-review

Hi! I watched 4 movies this weekend. Are you ready for some reviews?

The Express, is about Ernie Davis the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. I didn't know anything about his life so the impact of finding out about his life was greater for me as I watched the film. I liked it I thought it was well-done. I feel like all the short bio films like these follow the same formula( from childhood to their success). Wanna be tearjerkers but some work and some don't.Wanna be tearjerkers but some work and some don't. This one worked and I was pleased to see some actors that I have been following.
Time to talk about the actors. I didn't like Darrin Henson as Jim Brown just felt like he looked nothing like him and his accent was nothing near the 1950's. Charles Dutton has changed a lot from his Rock days and Mr. Dutton is working on a lot of projects about black history which makes me smile. Omar Miller was good in the film (I'm waiting to see him flex his acting skills). Dennis Quaid, I've always been a fan of his. Chadwick Boseman, I like him( wink wink). Rob Brown(as Ernie Davis) I gotta say I like his performances. He's still got that babyface so I don't know when he will start playing husband and businessman roles.

It is worth the watch. Medium Star

Sidenote: I was a stand-in for the little boy who plays young Ernie D on a different project. Imagine that!

I haven't seen any movies lately. My laptop is sick or dead not sure which one it is. I have two more weeks of teaching left then I think I will take a vacation to Thailand. Do you have any movie suggestions? I was thinking of watching Nine this week. I bought American Violet I will try to review that tomorrow. Later
